Today we described animals that fly, swim, run, and slither. Animals have glorious TEXTURES found in feathers, scales, fur, and skin. We OUTLINED animal features. Then we filled in color areas using TEXTURE. Finally we SHADED in areas to make our animal 3-d. We practiced on SPHERES and GREY SCALES before finishing the animals. Check out the photos in still and slide show. |

Today we took animals to the ANIMATION department. We made shapes that were BIG, OPEN, and SIMPLE.
Students practiced simple shapes. They copied shapes from the white board and from each other. Then we worked on cartoon images. We outlined, added color with acrylic paint, and finished up with a CALIGRAPHIC line around the color. We even added BACKGROUND as animals need a HABITAT in which to live. Peek in on some previews to what the finished pieces will be this coming week.

Today we wrapped a second layer of plaster over card stock features such as ears, eyes, muzzles, and beaks. Plaster unifies the shapes, color, and materials used for the masks. Painting is the next step for Wednesday.
DON"T FORGET : THURSDAY is our field trip, extended day.

Today we set aside the masks to work with clay. Our animals took form in 3-d sculptures. Each will take days to dry before they get fired. Each student started with 2lbs. of low fire white clay. Rough forms first, then smooth shapes next. Friday we will add texture to the forms and hollow out thick areas. Here are photos of the first steps and rough shapes.

Today we went out into the world of small creatures. We explored the enclosed courtyard at NorthBranch. We collected bugs, spiders, worms, and butterfly/moths. We grabbed leaves of different shapes and sizes to use in our drawings of HABITAT and ENVIRONMENT.
