Today we talked about class expectations and introduced our topic. We did body tracings, made name-tags, assembled our doctor's bags, and worked on the cover of our doctor's bags. We are happy to supply a snack, but if you send one with your child, we will assume that you prefer for them to eat that instead. There seemed to be some confusion about that today, and a few children ended up with an awful lot to eat!
We would appreciate it if you could send a clean, empty 16oz. plastic bottle with cap to class with your child. We will need one per student for one of our projects. I was not able to collect enough prior to the beginning of this session--thanks!
Please don't forget our field trip to the Science Museum on Thursday, June 23rd. The children will leave for home at 2:30 that day.

Them bones, them bones .... I am amazed and pleased at how many bone names the students now know off the tops of their heads (or should I say: off the tops of their craniums?)! They know two different songs about bones, and they have made a bone model that they will be proud to share with you when we have our Open House on the 30th of June. We are now moving on to explorations about muscles.
june 22nd
Muscles were the topic of discussion at the beginning of the week, and we have moved on to the nervous system. Today we learned, among many other things, that the brain has enough electrical energy to light up a light bulb!
Please don't forget that tomorrow is our long day! The children will arrive at the same time, but we will soon be off to the Science Museum to see the body exhibit. There will not be a snack that day, but we will eat earlier. Please remember to send lunch with your child. If your child has a Project Seek t-shirt, please have him/her wear it. If you usually pick up your child, please plan on a pick-up time of 2:30. This is when buses will leave for home, so if your child rides the bus, please plan accordingly.

I hope that your child had many interesting things to report about our trip to the Science Museum on Thursday. I would say that two of the high points were the Perception Room and the cell lab were definite high points. The students were able to swab the inside of their cheeks and make a slide which allowed them to see human cells. After all, that's how every system in the body begins! Our own study of systems in the human body has been quite a whirlwind trip since Day One. We have now covered the following systems: skeletal, muscle, nervous, respiratory, and circulatory. We will have studied the digestive system by the end of the program.
Please be aware of the following two things:
On Thursday, our class will go to the cafeteria to see what it is like to be able to purchase snacks if they attend Project Seek again in the coming years. Please send a dollar or two if you would like for your child to be able to buy a snack that day.
..
OPEN HOUSE--5:00-7:00 this coming Thursday. Your child is eager to show and explain to you the many projects that we have been working on to reinforce our learning. We'd to see there!
