Smashing Science with Mr. Ranger
Extended Day Plans: We will be staying here at the middle school and working on a rocket project. We will walk to lunch at the pizza pub.Students will need to bring $6-7 for the buffet. Thank you!
Thursday June 16th
Welcome to Smashing Science! In our class we are in a workshop for young engineers who are looking to be challenged and build cool things to test and make. Our first day started off with discussing what/who scientist and engineers are, what they do and what they look like. After that we had our first big challenge, which was to make a tinfoil boat that could hold the most pennies! I'm very impressed with students participation and ingenuity. Take a look at some of the pictures below to see their progress!

Friday June 17th
Friday was race car day in smashing science. Students we challenged to design and build a car out of popsicle sticks and other materials that would roll down a ramp and drive all of the way across the room. Every student came up with different designs that all worked well. Learning about force, speed, motion and acceleration are all more fun when you get your hands on it! Nice job everyone.
Monday june 20th
Monday was a day dedicated to the design, construction and destruction of bridges! We started off our day talking about different types of bridges, and looked at some cool video clips of bridges being made, and why they fail. Afterwards we tried our own bridge designs and tried to see who could hold the most weight. A fun time was had by all.
Week 3
We've been working hard here at Smashing Science! First with some time in the computer lab, working on simulations with force and motion, projectile motion and gravity and orbits. From there we did rocket launches and started working on simple hydraulic machines. For the next couple days we will be building marble roller coasters. Check out the pictures below to see our progress!
